No McDonalds in Mount Evelyn

Join the local community in the fight to stop a McDonalds being built in a residential zone in Mount Evelyn.

What’s happening?

Yarra Ranges Council is currently considering a proposal for a McDonalds to be built at the site of Futsal complex on Hereford Road.

This is a residential area. A fast food restaurant will increase traffic, noise, litter, and smells at this location, which will greatly impact neighbouring residents and the entire community. Many locals feel that it will also destroy the community vibe of Mount Evelyn and put local businesses at risk.

A McDonalds in Mount Evelyn is bad news for:

  • Residents

A fast-food restaurant on Hereford Road will increase traffic, noise, and smells for neighbouring residents. It could increase illegal activity in our quiet neighbourhood. It will run directly along the back fence of residents on Glen View Road, like Julie and Peter pictured above.

  • Local Businesses

Mount Evelyn’s small businesses and cafes rely on custom from locals and visitors. These businesses are essential to the charm of our town. A McDonald’s will take income from local, family-run businesses and put it in the hands of a billion dollar corporation.

  • Wildlife

Mount Evelyn is home to the vulnerable Powerful Owl. Owl Lands Reserve is one of only 2 reserves for owls in the world! Owls need dark, quiet environments to thrive. A McDonald’s will increase light and noise through the night and put our owl populations at risk.
